Designed for Hand & Eye Studio by Thomas Housden the Acorn & Portobello timber lamps combine exquisite craftsmanship with a sense of simplicity.
Both lamps are hand crafted in the UK by a master wood turner using tulip timber. Each design is assembled from a number of segments that are then turned on a lathe to produce the finished shape. The Acorn and Portobello are a labour of love requiring considerable skill and time to produce. The beauty of these lamps lies in the legibility of the assembly of parts that make up each lamp combined with the subtle variations in colour and grain of each segment. The Acorn and Portobello are then finished with a matt Osmo Oil to protect the timber. The images opposite show the development of the first prototypes.
