Terracotta is one of the oldest building materials in existence. It can be found all over the world - from simple pots to great architectural masterpieces. The UK is no exception. From our sewers, chimney pots or great buildings, terracotta adorns our cities and our everyday life. However, the once prolific UK terracotta potteries are dwindling and terracotta is sadly often associated with cheap imported flower pots.
With this in mind we set out to design and manufacture a modern terracotta product for the home that celebrates this fantastic material. Our aim is to support this ancient trade in the UK whilst also showing off the raw beauty of terracotta.
The first of our product ranges is a family of three terracotta pendant lights designed by Thomas Housden. This handmade terracotta light is a fusion between old and new. The warm hues of kiln-fired terracotta, combined with the subtle white glaze and added twist of vibrantly coloured electric flex, make for a lamp that is equally at home in traditional and modern settings.
The pendants are all hand made to order by UK craftsmen making each truly unique. The process of slip casting liquid terracotta into moulds and hand glazing the fired shades is a skilled process that takes time but is well worth the wait.
